Accessing Secured Portions of the GE7EA Users Group Web Site

Firefox 3.0 and subsequent versions Corrective Action

The Mozilla Team made a design decision in July 2008 about Firefix 3.0 (and greater) which presents a "Secure Connection Failed" screen to the User as opposed to the correct GE7EA Users Group web page; however, a workaround exists, and this corrective action is presented on this page.

CORRECTIVE ACTION, Instructions to fix Firefox:

These instructions exhibit how to alter Firefox enabling accurate display of GE7EA Users Group web pages; in other words, these instructions eliminate the "Secure Connection Failed" screen.

Step Number Instruction Supporting Information
(these are examples, you need to work in the actual error web page)
1.  When you are presented with a screen similar to what appears to the right, click on it's "Or you can add an exception..." link at the bottom of the screen.

ge7ea.secure.users-groups.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
The certificate is only valid for Secure.Users-Groups.com

  • This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
  • If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

2.  Now, you will be presented with a screen similar to the one to the right, so click on it's "Add Exception" button.

3.  Next, you will be presented with a "Add Security Exception" dialog box.
  1. Click on the "Get Certificate" button on the right hand side toward the top of the dialog box.
  2. Click on the "Confirm Security Exception" button near the bottom right hand side of the dialog box.
4.  You are ready to try to open the page again!
